Hong Kong Customs detects case of precious metals and stones dealer carrying out specified transactions without registration
Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 7) detected a case which involved a local company that conducted transactions of value-adding work on precious metals and stones with each transaction value exceeding HK$120,000 without a registration under the Dealers in Precious Metals and Stones Regulatory Regime. The sole proprietor of the company was arrested.
The investigation is ongoing. The arrested person has been released on bail pending further investigation.

In an investigation conducted today, Customs officers discovered a local watch company, which has already registered as a Category A registrant under the Regime, had carried out several cash transactions with a total value exceeding HK$120,000 in the course of business. The investigation is ongoing and a 41-year-old director of the company is assisting in the investigation.

In an investigation conducted yesterday, Customs officers discovered a local watch company, who has already registered as a Category A registrant under the Regime, had carried out several cash transactions with a total value exceeding HK$120,000 in the course of business. The investigation is ongoing and a 33-year-old director of the company is assisting in the investigation.

Hong Kong Customs detected a case which involved a local company having conducted a transaction of precious stones with total value above HK$120,000 without a registration during the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show held at AsiaWorld-Expo between February 27 and March 2. The investigation is ongoing and three arrested persons have been released on bail pending further investigation.
This is the first case effected by Hong Kong Customs after the end of the nine-month transitional period for registration (i.e. April to December 2023) under the Dealers in Precious Metals and Stones Regulatory Regime (the Regime).

Hong Kong Customs establishes Dealers in Precious Metals and Stones Sector Advisory Group
Hong Kong Customs today (October 6) announced the establishment of the Dealers in Precious Metals and Stones Sector Advisory Group, and held the inaugural ceremony of the first term of the Advisory Group at the Customs Headquarters Building. The Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Ms Louise Ho, officiated at the ceremony and presented appointment certificates to 18 non-official members from the precious metals and stone industry. Representatives from various trade associations also attended the ceremony.
